The short version

BongBong has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your progress and the maps you build stay on your device. Playing online sends the room server only what it needs to run the round.

On your device

The levels you have cleared and the maps you build are saved where you play: in the app's own storage on iPhone, iPad, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux, and in your browser's storage on bongbong.io. They are never uploaded.

On bongbong.io the browser also keeps a random id it makes up on your first visit, and one for each tab, so that reloading the page during an online round puts you back in your own seat. They are sent only when you play online.

Playing online

When you host or join a co-op room, the room server at rooms.bongbong.io receives what it needs to run the round for everyone in it:

The server keeps the round in memory and lets it go when the room closes. Its log notes each room it opens, with the room's code and map, and each player who joins or leaves it, with their nickname. Like any server, it sees your IP address while you are connected.
